Manchester student accommodation platform Housemates has secured £100k in pre-seed funding led by GC Angels, with participation from angel investor David Goadby. The capital will be allocated towards validating the business concept in Manchester, rolling out a web application later in the year, and expanding headcount across software, design, and marketing teams.

Founded in 2019 by Lydia Jones, the company provides a marketplace that bypasses traditional letting agents and associated fees, helping both private landlords and purpose-built student accommodation chains manage agreements and transactions directly. The latest injection follows earlier support from the Department for International Trade.

GC Angels backed the round to support the firm's growth and connect the founder with an experienced angel investor from its network. The investment aims to position the business for wider UK and international expansion.
