Heata operates a low carbon cloud compute network that repurposes server waste heat to provide domestic hot water and reduce energy bills. The firm originally began as a British Gas innovation project to combat fuel poverty.

Heata has secured £1m in seed funding to advance its low carbon cloud compute network and expand its team. The investment was led by Mark Boost, with participation from Green Angel Ventures, British Gas, and other angel investors.

The capital will support new hires across sales, marketing, design, and IT, alongside further research and development. Heata captures waste heat from servers and transfers it into domestic hot water cylinders, simultaneously lowering cloud computing emissions and cutting household energy costs.

From the founder

"Data centres are fundamental to our modern lives but they do use (and waste) enormous amounts of energy. All the processing energy ends up as heat and more energy is spent getting rid of it. But heat is useful, why waste it? At heata we’re reusing it to help tackle fuel poverty in a cost of living crisis; another key challenge of our time. This enables a step change in sustainable compute with a genuine social impact."
