The funding round was co-led by Clean Growth Fund and Pymwymic to support research and commercialisation.
FA Bio develops microbial bioproducts to replace chemical inputs and improve soil health in agriculture.
FA Bio has secured £5.3m in a funding round co-led by Clean Growth Fund and Pymwymic, with participation from Ship2B Ventures, existing shareholders, and private investors. The capital will be used to support commercialisation efforts, expand the team, and advance ongoing research and development.
Based at the Rothamsted Research Centre, the company employs its SporSenZ technology to sample agricultural fields and discover microbial isolates. The fresh funds will allow the firm to scale its operations and further its goal of replacing traditional chemical fertilisers and pesticides with natural alternatives.
From the founder
"Intensive agriculture and overuse of agrochemicals have contributed to a 70% biodiversity loss in the past 50 years, which has been made worse by the damaging effects of climate change – drought, soil warming and higher levels of CO₂."
Angela de Manzanos Guinot
CEO at FA Bio
Investor perspective
"We are excited to be supporting FA Bio’s next phase of growth. Angela and Kerry, and all of the FA Bio team, have achieved so much, and given the challenges – natural and man-made – that agriculture is facing across the world, FA Bio has significant growth potential. We are delighted to be investing in the UK bio-tech sector and excited by the carbon emissions reduction that FA Bio’s technology can achieve in agriculture."
