Exciting Instruments secures £4m in seed funding led by Northern Gritstone to expand its team and products.

Northern Gritstone led the over-subscribed seed round with participation from Empirical Ventures, Praetura Ventures, and private backers.

Exciting Instruments is a health tech spinout from the University of Sheffield developing a single-molecule detection platform. The company provides tabletop devices and software to automate visualisation for disease detection and drug discovery.

Exciting Instruments has secured £4m in a seed funding round led by Northern Gritstone. The capital will support the company as it expands commercial partnerships, grows its team, and evolves its product range. Additional backing for the over-subscribed round came from Empirical Ventures, NPIF II - Praetura Equity Finance, and serial entrepreneurs Stan Boland and Jonathan Millner.

Based out of the University of Sheffield, the health tech venture focuses on single-molecule detection platforms designed to automate analysis and visualisation for researchers. The technology aims to improve efficiency across pharma, healthcare, and industrial applications where traditional workflows have faced scalability challenges.
