Fife-based Epipole produces handheld retinal imaging equipment that allows clinicians to capture video scans of the retina for detailed examination.
Scottish retinal imaging specialist Epipole has secured £1.5m in a seed funding round to prepare for its entry into the United States market. The investment was led by Greenwood Way Capital alongside participation from the Scottish Investment Bank.
The company intends to direct the capital toward refining its handheld video ophthalmoscope based on feedback from ophthalmologists. The firm focuses on primary care optometry and ophthalmology in the United States, targeting product availability by early 2021.
Alongside the funding, Epipole announced the appointment of former Optos executive Ian Stevens as chairman. Stevens brings prior leadership experience from Scottish technology firms including Touch Bionics and Mpathy Medical.
