Ember provides an open banking powered tax platform designed to automate accounting and tax processes for the self-employed.

Financial technology firm Ember has secured £5m in funding to expand its embedded tax and accounting platform across other major banks in the UK. The investment round was led jointly by Valar Ventures, Viola Fintech, and Shapers.

The fresh capital follows the company's collaboration with HSBC UK to embed tax tools directly into the bank's digital interface. With regulatory changes approaching under HMRC, the business intends to use the backing to scale its infrastructure and partner with additional financial institutions.

Investor perspective

"At Shapers, we invest in companies that are not just leaders but also innovators in their field. Distribution to SMEs is mostly broken, and Ember’s new embedded tax solution is a testament to their forward-thinking approach. We are confident in Ember’s ability to execute this vision and excited to see them transform the way small businesses interact with their finances, making complex tasks more accessible and manageable."
