Continuum Industries secures £8.2m Series A funding led by Singular to accelerate energy infrastructure planning

Singular led the Series A investment alongside existing backers Credo, Playfair, and Techstart Ventures to fund team expansion and international growth.

£8.2MSeries A

Continuum Industries provides an artificial intelligence platform designed to accelerate infrastructure planning for energy developers. The software reduces complex routing and design processes from months to weeks.

Continuum Industries has secured £8.2m in a Series A funding round led by Singular, with participation from existing investors Credo, Playfair, Techstart Ventures, and several angel investors. The capital will be deployed to support the company as it expands into new markets and scales its team over the coming year. The fresh investment follows surging demand for faster deployment of renewable energy infrastructure across Europe and the United States.

The Edinburgh-based software developer produces Optioneer, an artificial intelligence tool that helps engineers and environmental specialists plan power lines, cables, and pipelines in a fraction of traditional timeframes. Existing clients utilising the platform include National Grid, National Gas Transmission, and Iberdrola Group. With electricity networks projected to double by mid-century, the company aims to eliminate historical planning bottlenecks that slow the global energy transition.

From the founder

"If we are going to deliver the energy transition required in time to meet global climate goals, we need to completely rethink worldwide energy infrastructure – transforming what we have, but also building considerably more, and doing so at an unprecedented pace. The best way to do that is to work smarter, not harder – as highlighted by the UK Electricity Networks Commissioner, automated infrastructure planning processes, such as those that we provide, have a big part to play. But the impact of technology needn’t be limited to the planning stage – we’re excited to bring its transformative power to developers throughout the development process as we continue to grow with this new funding."

Investor perspective

"Infrastructure is a vital, but under-discussed, aspect of the energy transition. Without robust, future-fit infrastructure to transport the growing amount of energy and utilities we need – especially as renewables come online in larger and larger volumes – all the innovation that goes into new generation and storage solutions will be wasted. Grzegorz and the team at Continuum have built impressive technology and are already working with some significant names to enable infrastructure to be delivered at a pace that matches the urgency of the situation. We’re pleased to be supporting them, and look forward to seeing the company grow from strength to strength as it looks beyond the planning stage to become the definitive platform for the infrastructure industry."
