Constructive Bio is a synthetic genomics startup that rewrites genomes to build novel biomolecules and sustainable materials. The company originated as a spinout from the University of Cambridge.
Constructive Bio has secured $15m in seed funding to advance its synthetic biology research and commercialise technology developed at the Medical Research Council. The round was led by Ahren, with participation from Amadeus Capital Partners, General Inception, and OMX Ventures.
The capital will be deployed to expand technology platforms, assemble synthetic genomes, and synthesise non-natural polymers using bacterial strains. The funding also supports the scaling of research originating from Professor Jason Chin's laboratory at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology.
The company operates as an MRC spin-out, holding an exclusive licence to intellectual property aimed at enabling novel therapeutics, enhanced agriculture, and advanced manufacturing materials.
