Commonplace provides a software platform that connects local communities with urban planners and developers to gather feedback and streamline the planning process.

Commonplace has raised £2.1m in seed funding to accelerate its market expansion and enhance its community engagement platform. The round was led by Beringea, with participation from Ascension Conduit, Concrete Ventures, Foundation Ventures, Grosvenor Ventures, and Oxford Innovation Finance.

The company operates a software platform used by major developers and city councils to gather community insights and streamline the planning process. Its technology helps secure planning permissions while increasing public participation in urban development.

The new capital will support the company as it scales operations and expands its footprint across property and municipal sectors.

From the founder

"We are excited to welcome onboard some of the industry's leading investors as part of this fundraise and to have them support us on our mission to expand our market reach and help build better places. Commonplace is not only helping developers in gathering real-time feedback and public opinion, but also to reach those communities who wouldn't normally interact with application proposals. Boosting participation in community projects will empower positive engagement and help to build better cities and communities."

Investor perspective

"Commonplace has built a successful solution to the increasing challenge faced by developers looking to acquire planning. Their limited access to communities and its opinions can present huge risks and expense to developers, councils, governments and corporates seeking to create positive change in our cities. Commonplace has a huge market opportunity and potential for growth, and we're pleased to support them on this journey."
