Clean Food Group uses fermentation technology to convert food waste into sustainable oils and fats for the cosmetics, food, and pet nutrition sectors.
Clean Food Group has secured £4.5m in a convertible loan note funding round led by Clean Growth Fund, with participation from new investor New Agrarian alongside existing backers SEED Innovations and Döhler Group. The company also secured an additional £700k non-dilutive grant from Innovate UK.
The fresh capital will be directed towards expanding the company's fermentation facility in Knowsley, Liverpool. The site was acquired in September 2025 following the administration of Algal Omega 3.
The firm produces alternative oils and fats using a proprietary yeast strain to ferment surplus bakery waste. Its initial commercial offering, CLEAN Oil 25, gained regulatory approval for cosmetics in the UK, EU, and US during 2025.
