Chatta secures £250k from NPIF - Mercia Equity Finance to fund software development and international expansion
The edtech platform has raised £250k from NPIF - Mercia Equity Finance to scale its visual learning software internationally.
Chatta is an educational software platform that uses pictures to help children develop language and literacy skills. The system is utilised by schools and families worldwide.
Edtech platform Chatta has secured £250k in a seed funding round led by NPIF - Mercia Equity Finance. The business was founded by a former teacher and offers a digital tool designed to encourage children to speak and write more confidently.
The capital injection will be directed toward software development and scaling operations into international markets. The platform has gained traction across numerous schools and has been made available free to parents during lockdown periods to assist with remote learning.
Mercia manages the investment via the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund, supporting regional enterprises with growth capital.
From the founder
"Talk is the link between thinking and writing – if a child can’t say it, they can’t write it. Chatta creates opportunities to share stories and conversations within families and in schools. It gives children the confidence to speak to any audience and enhance their writing and vocabulary. In some cases parents tell us they’ve never before seen their child so strongly engaged with learning."

Investor perspective
"At a time when there are real concerns about the impact of digital media on children’s development, Chatta is helping to get families talking again and build children’s literacy skills. It is playing a particularly valuable role during the current lockdown, by helping teachers, parents and children to collaborate in remote teaching and learning."
