Bother secures £4.4m in pre-Series A funding from Sun Hung Kai & Co and Venrex Investment Management

Bother has raised £4.4m in a pre-Series A funding round backed by Sun Hung Kai & Co and Venrex Investment Management. The capital will support the online retailer's delivery model for household essentials, which uses predictive technology to automate the replenishment of groceries and cleaning products. The company was established less than a year ago to challenge traditional supermarket dominance in the household goods sector.
Investors in the round include firms known for early bets on consumer technology companies such as Uber and Just Eat. Bother plans to expand its service, which coordinates direct deliveries of non-refrigerated goods to help consumers reduce plastic waste and support local fresh produce retailers.

"There is no reason for dishwasher tablets to be delivered in a refrigerated van. It is neither convenient, cost effective nor environmentally sustainable. With the rise of Deliveroo, recipe boxes and on-demand groceries, food can be delivered with increasing convenience, but bulky household items still lag behind, sold predominantly through the same channels they have been for 70 years – the supermarkets."
