Blecon enables physical products to communicate with cloud applications using Bluetooth Low Energy. The company combines the deployment model of Wi-Fi with cellular networking to deliver low-cost and low-power internet of things connectivity.

Blecon has secured £3.5m in seed financing led by MMC Ventures to advance its internet of things connectivity technology. The capital will be directed towards strengthening product development and expanding customer engagements.

Founded by internet of things specialists from major technology firms, the company has created a system that removes the need for traditional one-to-one pairing in Bluetooth devices. The approach allows both standard smartphones and dedicated cellular hubs to function as network hotspots.

The business draws on the widespread adoption of Bluetooth to provide scalable cloud connectivity for commercial applications. This latest investment will support the team as it scales its operations and deepens its market presence.

From the founder

"Bluetooth has seen unprecedented technical and commercial success as a consumer technology for personal connectivity, with adoption in billions of devices. Now, businesses are exploiting those economies of scale and unique low-cost, low-power characteristics for cloud-connected devices, and Blecon is providing the technology to allow them to achieve it."
