Sheffield-based battery materials innovator AmpliSi has secured £2m in pre-seed funding to transition its technology from the laboratory to industrial scale-up. The round was led by Northern Gritstone and Clean Growth Fund. The capital will enable the company to refine its manufacturing processes and engage with commercial partners.
AmpliSi develops proprietary porous silicon anodes intended to overcome the degradation and expansion issues traditionally associated with silicon in lithium-ion cells. By utilising widespread silica and a simplified production process, the university spinout aims to provide battery manufacturers with a scalable alternative to graphite that delivers higher energy density and longer lifespans for electric vehicles and grid storage.
