White Lion Hotel secures £120k to upgrade rooms and facilities

The White Lion Hotel has secured a £120k funding package comprising a £96k loan from the Development Bank of Wales and a £24k grant from Visit Wales. The capital enabled the family-run business to accelerate the refurbishment of its ten bedrooms and upgrade its bar and restaurant facilities in time for the Easter period. Further improvements, including EV charging points and solar panels, are planned for the future.
Operated by Alan and Michelle Murphy since 2012, the establishment employs over twenty staff and offers food and beverage service throughout the year. The recent investment supports the venue in achieving a four-star rating, addressing a local shortage of high quality tourist accommodation in Machynlleth.

"With ten bedrooms and a 90-cover restaurant, the White Lion has always been a busy spot in Machynlleth which is popular with locals and tourists alike. During the second lockdown the White Lion varied its license and now opens from 8am for food and drink, with hot food served from 8am until 9pm seven-days a week, 364 days a year."
