What3words secures an airtime for equity investment from Channel 4 Ventures
Channel 4 Ventures has taken a stake in the location technology provider through an airtime for equity arrangement.
what3words operates a global addressing system that divides the planet into a grid of three metre squares, each designated by a unique combination of three words. The technology allows precise locations to be communicated easily for deliveries, emergency services and everyday navigation.
What3words has secured an airtime for equity investment from Channel 4 Ventures. The broadcaster will provide commercial airtime to help the location technology company increase public awareness of its app and services.
The capital comes from Channel 4's corporate venture arm, previously known as the Commercial Growth Fund. The arrangement is designed to connect the mapping platform with tech savvy viewers across the UK.
Emergency services across the country increasingly rely on the technology to locate callers in distress. The partnership aims to build on this traction and further expand the profile of the addressing system.
From the founder
"You never know where an emergency is going to happen, but we do know the value of having our technology to hand during it."
