Uniphy develops advanced interface technology that transforms everyday surfaces into intuitive controls, offering an alternative to traditional touchscreens and buttons.

Uniphy has secured £3m in funding from Mercia Ventures, which invested through the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund II and its own funds. The capital will be used to develop an integrated chip and miniaturise the firm's technology for wider applications in mobile devices and industrial markets.

Founded in 2015 by microelectronics specialists David Lomas and David Dearn, Uniphy provides an interface technology that enables pressure sensitivity, sliders, dials, and gesture recognition on curved 3D surfaces made of standard plastics or glass. The system has already undergone trials with Hyundai and Grupo Antolin.

The latest investment will support the company as it prepares for mass production, allowing it to reduce the size and cost of its components for broader consumer electronics and automotive uses.
