Sheffield-based Tutorful operates an online education platform that connects students with tutors across a wide range of subjects. The company provides a virtual classroom environment alongside scheduling and billing tools to support digital learning.

Edtech platform Tutorful has secured £3m in a Series A follow-on funding round. The investment was provided by Mercia through its Northern Venture Capital Trust funds and NPIF - Mercia Equity Finance, operating as part of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund.

The fresh capital will be directed towards enhancing the digital platform, continuing international expansion efforts, and creating around 27 new jobs at the company headquarters in Sheffield. This follows a period of significant growth for the business, driven by increased demand for online tuition during the pandemic.

The company previously raised £3.5m from Northern VCTs in 2019 and recently launched operations in France and Ireland.

From the founder

"Online learning now plays a key role in education but nothing can replace the benefits of one to one tuition. Tutorful offers the best of both worlds – it offers students easy access to some of the best teachers in the UK while leveraging the power of technology to make learning more fun and engaging. The platform has potential for use worldwide and this latest investment will help us to expand into other overseas markets."
