SurrealDB secures £17m Series A extension from Chalfen Ventures and Begin Capital to accelerate product maturity

Chalfen Ventures and Begin Capital join existing backers to support the rollout of SurrealDB 3.0.
SurrealDB develops a multi-model database designed to unify structured facts, semantic context, and agent memory. The platform enables developers to build real-time and artificial intelligence applications with streamlined infrastructure.
SurrealDB has secured £17m in a Series A funding extension to support product maturity, reliability, and enterprise readiness. The round was backed by new investors Chalfen Ventures and Begin Capital alongside existing backers FirstMark and Georgian. The fresh capital will be directed towards accelerating platform adoption, scaling cloud offerings, and expanding the team to deepen production support.
The investment coincides with the release of SurrealDB 3.0, a next-generation iteration featuring first-class agent memory and context graphs designed to resolve memory constraints in autonomous systems. The company has experienced rapid adoption, amassing millions of downloads and a substantial developer following since inception.
From the founder
"This fresh investment demonstrates a growing level of excitement for our category-defining, developer-friendly database. Chalfen Ventures and Begin Capital have joined this round due to our strong momentum in real-world usage, and clear path to large-scale production."

Investor perspective
"Every compute era requires a new database paradigm. We are in the AI era, but most ambitious enterprise AI projects stall. They need a data platform that makes unprecedentedly large-scale contextual information available to agentic systems, in a way that is synchronised across data sources, fast, and secure. SurrealDB is that platform. It meets the needs of both AI agents and enterprise data governance. It is the best on-ramp for companies looking to get native AI initiatives off the ground, and I believe that it can shape what it means for a business to be agent-ready."
