Start Codon closes a £15m venture fund to back life science and healthcare start-ups

Start Codon operates as a business accelerator focused on life science and healthcare start-ups based in Cambridge. The organisation provides seed funding, mentoring, and lab facilities to translate early-stage research into commercial enterprises.
Cambridge-based life science and healthcare accelerator Start Codon has closed its first venture fund at £15m. The capital will be deployed to back early-stage ventures through seed funding, business support, and access to workspace and laboratory facilities. Backers in the vehicle include Novartis International and Cambridge Innovation Capital, with the former also offering mentorship and commercial partnership opportunities to participating founders.
The organisation plans to support up to 50 companies over the next five years. Having already showcased its inaugural cohort and enrolled a second group of ventures, Start Codon continues to scout for innovative health technologies.
