Quantum Motion secures investment from Sony Innovation Fund as part of its £42m round
Sony Innovation Fund joins the second close of the funding round to support the development of silicon-based quantum computers.
Quantum Motion develops scalable and energy-efficient quantum computers using industry-standard silicon transistors. The firm leverages existing semiconductor manufacturing lines to build systems that fit inside standard data-centre racks.
Quantum Motion has secured an investment from Sony Innovation Fund as part of the second close of its funding round initially announced in February 2023. The round has brought in over £42m in equity funding to support the development of silicon-based quantum computers.
Sony Innovation Fund joins a roster of existing backers including Bosch Ventures, Porsche Automobil Holding SE, British Patient Capital, and several others. The latest injection of capital follows cumulative fundraising of over £62m in equity and grant funding for the London-based enterprise.
Sony is expected to provide technical expertise in CMOS semiconductor design alongside access to the Japanese market. The company intends to utilise the backing to scale its technology platform.
Investor perspective
"We are actively exploring investments in technologies that will be transformational with wide ranging applications. Quantum computing has the potential to have that impact, and we want to work with the companies that are best positioned to bring it to commercial scale. As our first investment in the quantum technologies space, Quantum Motion is already demonstrating tremendous advancement and leadership, and we are excited to help fuel their next stage of growth."
