Pembrokeshire Performance Sailing Academy secures £20k to launch a second watersport centre

The academy sourced the debt financing from the Development Bank of Wales to purchase equipment for a new site in Lydstep.

£20.0KDebt

An accredited sailing and powerboat training provider based in south west Wales.

Pembrokeshire Performance Sailing Academy has secured a £20k loan from the Development Bank of Wales to establish a second training facility in Lydstep. The funding enables the academy to purchase two sailing vessels and a powerboat for the new site located at the Bourne Leisure Caravan Holiday Village.

Run by former military instructor Richard Owens, the academy operates its primary base near Pembroke Dock. The new capital will support expansion into the regional tourism sector while providing employment opportunities for local freelance instructors ahead of the Easter opening.

The investment was delivered through an expedited loan facility designed for established Welsh enterprises, offering quick access to capital without the requirement for an exhaustive business plan.

From the founder

"We were given the chance to open a second centre in Lydstep but we needed access to quick finance so that we could grasp the opportunity quickly. The fast-track loan from the Development Bank means that we can invest in new equipment and diversify our business in to the tourism market; providing exciting opportunities for growth and creating new work for local freelance sailing instructors."

Investor perspective

"Our fast-track loans are now available up to £25,000 with a decision made within two days. This funding is ideal for businesses that have been trading for over two years and are ready to scale up, invest in additional stock, develop products or need a helping hand with cashflow. We’ve been delighted with the response so far from businesses’ like the Pembrokeshire Performance Sailing Academy. The businesses that we support like the easy on-line application processcoupled with having a person rather than a computer making a decision. Having the support from our local teams is making a real difference."
