Oxa secures investment from Google to advance autonomous vehicle software

Google takes a stake in the Oxford spin-off following its earlier funding round.

Oxa develops industrial mobility automation software that transforms existing commercial vehicles into autonomous fleets for controlled environments such as ports, factories, and airports.

Google has acquired a stake in Oxa, the autonomous vehicle software developer formerly known as Oxbotica. The investment follows Oxa raising a $140m Series C funding round earlier in the year.

Founded in 2014 by Oxford professors Paul Newman and Ingmar Posner, Oxa focuses on autonomous systems for public transportation and industrial applications rather than consumer robotaxis. Its technology relies on laser vision, radar, and cloud management services with low computing power requirements.

The partnership with Google is expected to provide Oxa with access to the technology giant's expertise and resources, potentially creating links with Alphabet's Waymo driverless car business.
