Owlstone Medical secures £1.7m from Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to develop a breath test for cystic fibrosis

The funding will support proof-of-principle work for detecting Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections in patients.
Owlstone Medical develops breath-based diagnostics using its proprietary Breath Biopsy platform for applications in early disease detection and precision medicine.
Owlstone Medical has secured an equity investment of up to £1.7m from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The funding will support the development of a non-invasive breath test designed to detect Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections in patients with cystic fibrosis.
The initiative aims to establish proof of principle for identifying chronic lung infections through volatile organic compound analysis on breath samples. If successful, the diagnostic approach may be expanded to help clinicians monitor chronic conditions and identify new infections earlier than traditional sputum culture methods permit.
