Share allotment filed at Companies House

Notpla develops scalable, home-compostable packaging materials derived from seaweed and plants as alternatives to single-use plastics.

Notpla has secured £20m in Series A funding to scale its sustainable packaging operations. The round was led by UB Forest Industry Green Growth Fund, alongside participation from Catalytic Capital for Climate & Health, Horizons Ventures, Astanor, and several other backers.

The capital will be deployed to accelerate expansion into the North American market, scale up manufacturing capabilities, and broaden the company product range. Notpla produces alternative materials such as seaweed-coated food containers and edible liquid bubbles, which have already replaced millions of single-use plastic items across multiple European markets.

The business supplies major corporate clients and venues including Compass Group, Decathlon, and Just Eat Takeaway.com. With this new financing, the firm aims to increase its annual replacement volume significantly over the coming years.

From the founder

"We are thrilled to have secured this level of investment in such a competitive environment. This round not only validates our approach but also positions us to capitalise on the growing demand for truly plastic-free packaging solutions in global markets, especially as we develop our material’s possibilities."

Investor perspective

"Notpla’s business is well aligned with Temasek Trust’s impact focus areas. We believe that Notpla’s strong customer traction and product innovation position them well for further business expansion, as they realise even more impact and reduce the environmental harm caused by single-use plastics. We are proud to be part of Notpla’s journey and to see it growing from strength to strength since winning The Earthshot Prize, of which we are a Founding Partner."
