London-based streaming service Mubi has secured $100m in a new funding round led by Sequoia Capital, valuing the business at $1bn. The investment marks a rare foray into entertainment for Sequoia and adds to backing from existing investors including Summit Partners and Closer Media.
The fresh capital will be deployed to expand Mubi's global distribution network and finance a pipeline of original and acquired films. The company operates across 15 countries and has moved into production and theatrical distribution alongside its subscription streaming model.
