Microbiotica secures £50m Series B funding led by Tencent and Flerie Invest to advance clinical trials

Microbiotica discovers and develops microbiome-based therapeutics and biomarkers using a proprietary precision medicine platform. The company emerged from the Sanger Institute to advance live bacterial treatments across multiple disease areas.

Microbiotica has secured £50m in a Series B financing round co-led by Tencent and Flerie Invest. The round also drew participation from British Patient Capital alongside existing backers Cambridge Innovation Capital, IP Group, and Seventure Partners.

The fresh capital will support the company as it advances its two lead oral live bacterial therapeutics, MB097 and MB310, into Phase 1b clinical trials for immuno-oncology and ulcerative colitis. In addition, the funds will facilitate the broader expansion of the firm's microbiome discovery and biomarker pipeline into new therapeutic indications.

This transaction marks the largest microbiome-related financing in Europe to date. It underscores the growing commercial validation of the company's proprietary microbial genomics platform and its distinct approach to patient stratification.
