Living Carbon is a San Francisco public benefit company that restores degraded land into carbon-absorbing forests.
Living Carbon has secured $13m in direct funding from Octopus Energy Generation, alongside a $500m commitment for afforestation and reforestation projects in the US. The capital will support the company in restoring degraded land to build carbon-absorbing forests.
The San Francisco based company uses satellite imagery and historical climate data to identify and manage suitable sites on former mine lands and worn-out farmland. Alongside the investment, major buyers including Google, Meta, and McKinsey have agreed to purchase carbon credits from the company's Appalachian projects.
This transaction follows Octopus making a $100m investment in Cultivo as part of its wider strategy to build a portfolio of nature-based carbon assets in the US.
