KYMIRA develops smart garments embedded with bio-responsive technology that converts light and body heat into infrared wavelengths to aid muscle recovery.

KYMIRA has secured £121k in a pre-seed funding round led by members of Henley Business Angels alongside existing backers. The University of Reading spinout will allocate the fresh capital towards expanding its product range, advancing research into smart health-monitoring wearables, and driving international growth in the US market.

Founded in 2013, the company commercialises technologies through its sportswear brand while developing energy-harvesting and e-textile platforms for domestic and medical healthcare applications. The latest financing follows a period of bootstrapping and customer funding that established a solid foundation for rapid commercial expansion.

Leadership noted that Henley Business Angels was the sole network approached during the raise, citing the strategic value and expertise brought by the investors. The funding adds to prior backing from Innovate UK as the business prepares to scale its operations globally.

Investor perspective

"We are delighted to have several HBA members participate as new investors in KYMIRA. The company is showing solid growth in performance enhancing sportswear and building an application in wearables that will help identify and monitor chronic health disorders."
