A biotechnology startup based in Newcastle that uses proprietary artificial intelligence to develop sustainable ingredients for the cosmetics and pharmaceutical sectors.

HexisLab has secured £490k in grant funding from Innovate UK to advance its work in sustainable ingredient manufacturing. The Newcastle based biotechnology firm will direct the capital towards scaling up production processes for green compounds intended for the beauty and personal care sectors.

The project builds on a partnership with Teesside University and BiBerChem Research, combining artificial intelligence discovery methods with synthetic biology expertise. The funding will allow the company to accelerate research efforts aimed at reducing the environmental footprint of product development in consumer goods and pharmaceuticals.
