Hearing Diagnostics secures £715k from Archangels to fund hearing test trials

Scottish business angel syndicate Archangels backs Edinburgh-based Hearing Diagnostics to advance trials and prepare for a 2021 market launch.

£715K

Edinburgh-based developer of a rapid, motion-sensor-based hearing test system designed to improve accessibility and accuracy.

Hearing Diagnostics has secured £715k in funding from Scottish business angel syndicate Archangels. The capital will enable the Edinburgh-based firm to conduct trials with UK universities and hearing aid retailers ahead of a planned full market launch in 2021.

The company has developed a three-minute hearing test utilising motion-sensor headphones and computational algorithms, offering a faster and more cost-effective alternative to conventional audiological assessments. Alongside the investment, the business announced several board appointments, including Charles Sweeney as chairman.

From the founder

"Our vision is for hearing tests to become as accessible and commonplace as eye tests to ensure that everyone with hearing loss receives care at the earliest possible opportunity. Investment by Archangels brings us a huge step towards achieving our vision and we are excited to work with such a highly experienced and supportive group of investors."

Investor perspective

"Hearing loss is a condition that is experienced across the world and yet the technology around hearing tests has barely changed in recent years. Hearing Diagnostics appears to have invented a low cost, accurate and accessible test that will help hearing aid retailers to identify customers who need support with their hearing quickly and cost effectively."
