Irish biotechnology company HAON Life Sciences has secured a €10.7m grant through the CanVas consortium to advance its neonatal therapy. The funding was awarded by the Disruptive Technology Innovation Fund to support the clinical development of CanVas-001, a cell-based treatment for infants suffering from oxygen deprivation injuries at birth. HAON leads the consortium alongside partners including the National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training, Hi-Tech Health, and University College Cork.
Traditional treatments for conditions such as Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy remain severely constrained by narrow intervention windows. HAON aims to extend this therapeutic timeframe using a dual-cell mechanism combining Endothelial Colony Forming Cells and Mesenchymal Stromal Cells. The capital will enable the consortium to transition its lead candidate into clinical trials, marking a significant milestone for regenerative medicine in perinatal care.
