The funding round was led by Mercia Ventures and will support team expansion and platform development.
Grid Edge develops artificial intelligence software that optimises energy consumption and reduces carbon emissions for commercial buildings. Its platform integrates data from multiple sources to automate operational recommendations for property managers.
Grid Edge has secured £2.8m in a funding round led by Mercia Ventures, with participation from the Midlands Engine Investment Fund II, Centrica, bp Ventures and private investors. The capital will support the company as it expands its customer base and develops its software platform further. Founded in 2016, the Birmingham-based business plans to grow its team by adding 15 new roles across sales, customer support and technical functions.
The company provides artificial intelligence tools to commercial property operators, helping clients such as the Royal Opera House and the Bull Ring shopping centre reduce energy use and carbon output. The fresh backing follows a period of strong commercial growth, with annual recurring revenue increasing by 150 percent over the previous year.

Investor perspective
"Against a backdrop of rising energy prices, Grid Edge helps customers cut costs while achieving their sustainability targets. With future tariff changes set to introduce price fluctuations throughout the day, demand for Grid Edge’s platform will only grow. Tightening carbon reporting requirements will drive further adoption.
