Greener secures £142k in pre-seed funding from the Innovate UK Sustainable Innovation Fund to launch its matchmaking platform
The Bath-based cleantech startup has raised £142k to take its sustainability matchmaking platform live.
Greener operates a business-to-business sustainability matchmaking platform designed to connect food and drink small and medium-sized enterprises with suitable sustainability providers. The firm applies organizational psychology and supply chain modeling to help smaller businesses build sustainable operations.
Cleantech startup Greener has secured £142k in pre-seed funding, with backing from the Innovate UK Sustainable Innovation Fund. The capital will be deployed to launch its algorithmic matchmaking platform and refine its core technology ahead of a wider rollout in the summer of 2021.
Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Bath, the firm aims to remove financial and time barriers that prevent small businesses from adopting environmentally sustainable practices. The platform utilizes a network-based approach to pair food and drink enterprises with relevant sustainability service providers.
Co-founders Mehrnaz Tajmir and Dan Yates developed the concept after identifying inefficiencies in current supply chain networks. The fresh injection of funds allows the team to onboard early users, gather feedback, and scale operations following initial research and development phases.
From the founder
"research has shown that the vast majority of small businesses want to incorporate more sustainability into their practices, but we knew that the existing methods and processes were too time consuming, too complicated and too resource intensive for them to implement. We also knew that SMEs are the driving force of the economy, especially in the food and drink industry. We had a clear problem, we had a large market, and the solution became apparent: we need to make sustainability simple."
