Gener8 operates a free application that enables users to control, monitor, and monetise their online data. Based in London, the company provides tools to track and exchange personal digital footprints for real-world rewards.

Gener8 has secured £2m in a new funding round that values the company at £39m. The investment comes from a consortium of backers that includes returning high-profile names such as musician Tinie Tempah, football manager Harry Redknapp, and several Dragons Den stars.

The application aims to give users autonomy over their digital information by blocking trackers and turning online data into tangible rewards. The fresh capital will support the company as it scales its platform and expands its footprint in the personal data management market.

From the founder

"The world’s most valuable resource is no longer oil but data, and as a result of this everything that happens online is being tracked. The majority of websites we visit and apps we use place trackers on us to follow our movements and understand our behaviour. These trackers enable tens, and sometimes thousands, of companies to collect our information and they consequently exploit or sell it to make money from our data."
