Gaia secures £14.7m Series A funding from Atomico to expand fertility care access
The investment round was led by Atomico and will support international expansion.
Gaia provides fertility insurance products and predictive technology to help patients manage the costs and uncertainty of treatments like IVF.
London based fertility startup Gaia has secured £14.7m in a Series A funding round led by Atomico. The capital will be deployed to scale operations and expand geographically into markets such as the United States, where patients face financial barriers to care.
The round also drew participation from existing backers Kindred Capital, Seedcamp and US based Clocktower Technology Ventures, bringing the company total funding to date to $23m. Alongside the investment, Atomico Partner Sasha Astafyeva is joining the board.
Gaia operates by using predictive datasets to estimate the number of IVF rounds a couple will require, offering tailored insurance and manageable payment plans. The company trades as a coverholder in the Lloyd's of London market with capacity from Beazley, Chaucer and Atrium.
From the founder
"The fertility care model as we know it today is broken because the gap between those who want access to fertility treatments and those who can afford access is greater than ever. Three out of four people who seek fertility treatment never start because they believe the financial burden would be too large,"
Nader AlSalim
CEO and founder at Gaia
Investor perspective
"A whole host of factors – from declining sperm rates to people giving birth later in life – is leading to upward pressure on demand for fertility services,"
Sasha Astafyeva
Partner, Atomico
