FluoRok is an Oxford-based spin-out that develops sustainable and safe technologies for the production of fluorochemicals.

FluoRok has raised £7.7m in an oversubscribed funding round led by BGF and Green Generation Fund, with participation from Volta Energy Technologies, Oxford Science Enterprises, University of Oxford, Excellis Holding, and angels. The capital will be directed towards team expansion and scaling production facilities for its fluorinating reagents and lithium-ion battery components.

The Oxford spin-out addresses traditional manufacturing challenges by eliminating the need for hazardous hydrogen fluoride, aiming to lower carbon emissions and introduce circular economy principles to the sector. Its technology targets key markets including battery electrolyte salts and agrochemicals.

The fresh funding follows strong early customer demand and provides the company with experienced backers in the sustainable technology and battery sectors as it works toward commercial scale.

From the founder

"We are delighted to welcome BGF and Green Generation Fund along with Volta Energy Technologies to our investor base. Their experience of building successful break-through technology businesses in battery and sustainable technologies will be invaluable. With an outstanding investor syndicate to support us, we continue our mission to make fluorochemicals production safer, cheaper, and more sustainable. This investment will play a huge part in our journey to scale and commercialise our proprietary technology with key partners across the global fluorochemical supply chain, and in accelerating the development of a technology that can provide a reliable and localised supply of a key component of Li-ion batteries."
