ev.energy provides a cloud-based software platform that intelligently manages electric vehicle charging for drivers and utilities worldwide. The company connects directly to vehicles and chargers to optimise energy usage and grid stability.

ev.energy has raised £25.8m in a Series B funding round led by National Grid Partners to accelerate its international reach and expand its virtual power plant capabilities. The round drew participation from Aviva Ventures, WEX Venture Capital and InMotion Ventures, alongside ongoing backing from existing investors including Energy Impact Partners, Future Energy Ventures and ArcTern Ventures.

The capital will support the company as it builds on its growth across North America and the UK, providing pathways to connect millions of additional energy customers and vehicles to its platform. The fresh funds will also help scale operations and develop new features for fleet management and solar home charging.

National Grid Partners executive Bobby Kandaswamy has joined the company board following the investment, strengthening ties between the software firm and major utility operators.

From the founder

"In the next few years, total EV demand in most developed countries will surpass the energy output of even the largest power plants – for example, the behemoth Palo Verde Generating Station in the US. As more EVs come online, optimised charging and load maintenance will remain critical tools for ensuring grid stability. By being able to shape and control EV load, ev.energy can both benefit the grid and help drivers to charge using the greenest and cheapest energy."

Investor perspective

"Partnering with energy utilities isn’t easy, but ev.energy has a compelling value proposition that can be quickly deployed. ev.energy is one of the most successful startup companies we’ve ever invested in when it comes to partnering with energy utilities and has enabled numerous partners to roll-out smart-charging programmes."
