Dia Beta Labs has secured £1.2m in funding to advance its pipeline of treatments for obesity and type 2 diabetes. The capital was led by DSW Ventures, with additional backing from QUBIS and Innovate UK. The spin-out intends to use the proceeds to accelerate pre-clinical data packages and scale up operations.
Originating from research at Ulster University, the company focuses on creating therapeutic candidates that can reduce reliance on high doses of existing drugs like Wegovy and Ozempic, mitigating adverse side effects. The fresh injection of capital follows the firm's success at the 2024 INVENT Awards and marks DSW Ventures' first venture in Northern Ireland.

With the funding secured in this round, we will be able to significantly progress our path to clinic for DBL’s lead candidates which target greater fat vs muscle loss and provide a much-required alternative to GLP-1s for the majority of users forced to discontinue GLP-1s due to intolerance."
