CuspAI develops generative artificial intelligence models designed to accelerate the discovery and synthesis of advanced materials.

Cambridge-based materials discovery platform CuspAI has secured a reported $400m funding round that elevates its valuation to $2.6bn. The transaction features participation from Kleiner Perkins and Bezos Expeditions, the family office of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. Terms sheets have been signed for the financing, which follows a rapid commercial expansion period for the startup.

The company was established in 2024 by Dr Chad Edwards and Professor Max Welling to apply generative models to chemical and material science. CuspAI plans to use the capital to support its ongoing development and scale operations as competition within the physical artificial intelligence sector intensifies.
