Cogitat, an Imperial College London spinout developing non-invasive brain computer interfaces, has secured a £500k grant from Innovate UK. The funding will be delivered in partnership with games developer Unit9 to support clinical trials with NHS stroke patients.

The capital will be directed towards advancing the company's research and development programme. Specifically, Cogitat will build its brain decoding software for integration into Unit9's virtual reality telerehabilitation platform ahead of trials scheduled for early 2024.

Founded in 2020, Cogitat uses artificial intelligence to translate motor cortex signals from wearable headsets into computer software inputs. The technology aims to improve recovery outcomes by increasing patient engagement during stroke rehabilitation exercises.
