Charac secures £1m pre-seed investment from Royal Mail Group to expand its pharmacy digitisation platform.
Royal Mail Group has backed the NHS-integrated pharmacy platform in a pre-seed round to help local healthcare providers expand their digital services.
Charac provides a cloud-native software platform that integrates with the NHS to streamline operations and digitise independent pharmacies. Total funding has reached roughly £4m following its latest financing round.
Charac has secured £1m in pre-seed funding from Royal Mail Group to expand its digital healthcare platform for independent community pharmacies across the UK. The investment will support the company as it aims to bring digital prescription management and remote consultations to more local pharmacies, helping to alleviate pressure on general practice and the NHS.
The platform integrates with electronic prescription services and provides tools for appointment management and patient relationship management. By digitising these services, Charac allows pharmacists to reclaim time for higher-margin clinical offerings while helping community pharmacies compete with online rivals.

"The pandemic has outlined the necessity of community healthcare and the power of digital delivery. In the UK today, it is estimated that just 3% of all prescriptions are ordered digitally, with most UK pharmacies still lacking the ability to digitise their services. This places undue pressure on the wider NHS and prevents an estimated 18 million GP consultations being transferred to community pharmacists, who are equipped to manage many health conditions that would typically be associated with GP care. Today’s investment will help local pharmacies across the UK adapt, survive and thrive by arming them with the necessary technology to exist in our houses as well as on our high street."
