Certain Energy develops long-duration energy storage systems using manganese electrolyte technology to address grid waste.
Certain Energy has secured £10m in a Series A funding round led by the British Business Bank, which contributed £3.5m. The financing also saw participation from Centrica, Ceres Power, and Catalytic Capital.
The capital will be directed towards a grid-connected demonstration project in India, alongside supporting research and development efforts in the United Kingdom and developing the associated supply chain.
The company emerged from Imperial College London as RFC Power before a period under Ceres Power, and it now operates independently with a focus on manganese flow batteries designed to store renewable energy over extended durations.
From the founder
"The renewable power market is held back by its vulnerability to external factors. The answer is long-duration energy storage, and Certain Energy has the technology and now the funding to deliver highly efficient, affordable batteries, based on abundant materials, to make this a reality."
