CamGraPhIC develops graphene-based optical transceivers designed to improve data transfer speeds in artificial intelligence systems.
CamGraPhIC has secured €211m in Italian state aid, which has been approved by the European Commission. The capital will enable the Cambridge spin-out to advance its graphene-based optical interconnect technology towards industrial production.
Founded in 2018 at the University of Cambridge, the company produces graphene-based optical transceivers intended to overcome data transfer bottlenecks between processors and memory in artificial intelligence systems. The fresh capital is earmarked for establishing a pilot facility near Milan, scheduled to open in 2028, to demonstrate manufacturing compatibility with commercial semiconductor factories.
