The Gwynedd wholesaler has raised debt financing from the Development Bank of Wales to transition its delivery fleet to electric power.

Bwydydd Oren Foods is a fruit and vegetable wholesaler based in Gwynedd that supplies fresh produce to commercial and public sector clients across north and mid Wales.

Bwydydd Oren Foods has secured a £60k loan from the Development Bank of Wales to finance sustainability upgrades at its warehouse. The capital will enable the Gwynedd-based fruit and vegetable wholesaler to install a solar panel array and electric vehicle charging points.

The funding, provided via the Green Business Loan Scheme, marks the second time the business has received financial support from the development bank, following an earlier loan in 2020. The company plans to use the new infrastructure to begin transitioning its twelve delivery vans to electric power.

Led by Gethin Dwyfor, the family-run enterprise supplies hotels, shops, and local authorities throughout north and mid Wales. The green energy investments are intended to reduce carbon emissions and lower long-term operating costs.

From the founder

"We’ve grown over the years because we’ve always taken a long-term view of our business, and we’ve always tried to be sustainable. Not just because it’s good for the environment, but also because it can cut costs and allow us to pass those savings on to our customers."

Investor perspective

"Working with Gethin and everyone at Oren Foods was a pleasure. They’re a successful business with strong local roots, supplying fresh food to satisfied customers across North Wales. Like many businesses with their energy demands, they’d been looking to make the switch to alternative forms of energy for some time, and the Green Business Loan provided the support they needed."
