Beamline Diagnostics develops a rapid biopsy triaging system that screens tissue samples at the point of care. The technology aims to reduce unnecessary pathology lab workloads.

Beamline Diagnostics has secured £650k in a funding round led by Angels in MedCity and Angel Academe alongside other backers. The capital will support further product development and preparations for the company's first in-clinic trials.

Founded by Dr Liberty Foreman and Dr Katherine Willetts, the business has developed the Beamline Solas system, which combines data analysis with existing hardware to screen biopsies at the bedside. The technology is designed to identify healthy samples quickly, reducing the volume of tissue sent to pathology laboratories.

Alongside the funding announcement, the company has appointed Dr Ian Smith as its new chairman. Smith brings extensive clinical trials experience from his previous role at Synexus.
