Artio raises £550k in pre-seed funding led by Lifetime Ventures to scale carbon removal insurance
Lifetime Ventures led the pre-seed round, with backing from SFC Capital, to accelerate product development and key hires.
Artio is a climate insurtech startup providing risk mitigation products for early-stage carbon removal projects. The firm uses a proprietary risk modelling platform to help secure investment and accelerate market growth.
Artio has raised £550k in a pre-seed funding round led by Lifetime Ventures, with participation from SFC Capital. The capital will be deployed to accelerate product development and support key hires as the company prepares to launch its initial insurance offerings for carbon removal projects in early 2025.
The insurtech firm addresses delivery risks that frequently hinder early-stage carbon removal initiatives from securing necessary investment. By offering risk mitigation from day one, Artio aims to increase market confidence and boost the supply of high-integrity carbon credits.
The fresh injection of funds comes as global organisations increasingly seek solutions to meet net-zero targets and address historical emissions. Artio is developing its offerings alongside experienced insurance partners through participation in Lloyd's Lab.
From the founder
"I’ve directly seen carbon project investments fall through due to the risk of under-delivery. We need datasets built for early-stage risk modelling, and that’s what we are building to power our insurance products."
