Altilium secures £18.5m from the UK government to construct its first commercial electric vehicle battery recycling plant.
The funding was awarded through the DRIVE35 Scale-Up Fund to build the ACT3 facility in Plymouth.

Altilium has secured £18.5m in funding from the UK government to construct a major electric vehicle battery recycling facility in Plymouth. The capital comes via the DRIVE35 Scale-Up Fund, alongside backing from Innovate UK and the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK.
Named ACT3, the upcoming plant is designed to process up to 24,000 batteries annually. It will extract key materials including lithium sulphate, graphite, and nickel mixed hydroxide precipitate, creating approximately 70 skilled jobs in the region.
The investment forms part of a wider £138.1m package announced by the Department for Business and Trade to bolster domestic automotive supply chains. Altilium plans to use the facility as a precursor to an even larger plant in Teesside.
