Alesi Surgical raises £5m from Mercia Ventures to expand commercial reach.
The funding round was led by Mercia Ventures with backing from IP Group and Panakès Partners.
Alesi Surgical is a medical technology company that develops systems to remove hazardous surgical smoke from operating theatres. Its flagship platform uses electrostatic precipitation to clear smoke during minimally invasive procedures.
Alesi Surgical has secured £5m in a funding round led by Mercia Ventures, with participation from existing backers IP Group and Panakès Partners. The capital will support the company as it targets growth in the US market and pursues regulatory clearances across Europe and Japan.
The investment arrives as the firm gains US regulatory approval for the IonPencil, an instrument designed to manage smoke during routine procedures. Legislation mandating smoke management policies across multiple US states has created heightened demand for alternatives to cumbersome extraction tubes.
Originating from Cardiff University, the company has deployed its initial technology in over 40,000 procedures. The latest funds will help commercialise its expanded product range addressing a wider surgical market.
