4D Medicine secures £3.4m Series A funding to advance pre-clinical testing and US market entry

4D Medicine

Oshen Holdings led the Series A round with backing from DSW Ventures, SFC Capital, and Boundary Capital.

£3.4MSeries A

4D Medicine is a UK-based business that has created a resorbable biomaterial for 3D printed surgical devices and implants. The enterprise operates out of Nottingham with its own development and production facility.

4D Medicine has secured £3.4m in a Series A financing round led by Oshen Holdings. The capital injection also drew participation from DSW Ventures, SFC Capital, Boundary Capital, and various private investors including medical professionals.

The proceeds will be directed towards finalising pre-clinical trials for the company initial product line and pursuing regulatory clearance from the FDA to enter the American market. This latest raise brings the company total funding to date to £5m as it prepares for a subsequent Series B round early next year.

The business originates as a spin-out from the Universities of Birmingham and Warwick, having developed a proprietary polycarbonate-urethane resin known as 4Degra. This material gradually erodes through normal metabolic processes as natural tissue regenerates, avoiding the acidic by-products associated with older resorbable polymers.

From the founder

"I would like to thank all our investors for their trust and support. Our success in continuing to raise investment despite the difficult market conditions over the last few years is testament to their belief in the company’s commercial potential and our world-class team. The funds will be used to complete the pre-clinical testing of our first medical device product range and our preparations for entry into the orthopaedic market."
